Ipsy’s January 2016 Glam Bag

I bet a lot of judging eyes are on me since it’s almost June and here I am reviewing the January Ipsy Glam bag and, believe me, I’m already judging myself. Severely so.

As you might already know I’m a fairly recent Ipsy subscriber and makeup lover and I want to share my journey with whomever reads my little blog. My first step was not subscribing to Ipsy, but going to Sephora and admit to the cast member that I was a woman who had never taken her time to learn about makeup and I needed to get basically everything. The result was amazing and I was so very pleased that remembering that feeling helped when I decided to subscribe.

I have a year subscription, which I know a lot people see as a risk, but from my point of view is better if you just go all in and then stop thinking about those extra $10 you would have had to subtract the next time you get paid.

This is the first glam bag I got and honestly, acquiring it for just a month is not really enough to decide if you like Ipsy or not. Like I said before, give it a chance!

Knowing next to nothing about art I would say that this bag’s idea was to make you think of those Pop Art paintings that subsequently make you remember Andy Warhol. That said I think it’s a pretty bag and one worth keeping.

  • Where can you get it? At Walmart for  $4.88.
  • It’s fairly easy to use and it brings instructions just in case you need them.
  • The pomade itself is creamy and long lasting. Which means you don’t have to retouch it at any point in the day.
  • The brow brush is a little disappointing though. I’ve taken good care of it and it’s already started losing a strands. I would advise to use it until you think you shouldn’t use it anymore and before it does buy another one that you’ve tried before or that has been recommended to you.
  • Would I buy it? Yes! In my actual colour. As Ipsy sent it in light brown to all their subscribers and I have black eyebrows and yes, I still use it even if it’s not my colour.

Mr. Write (Now) by theBalm.

  • Where can you get it? At theBalm’s website or at Kohl’s for $17. It comes in eight different colours.
  • Since it’s not really a colour I’m into,  I’ve barely used it, however it’s good, it last for quite a long time.
  • It has a built-in sharpener so you don’t have to worry about needing to use it and not having a tip and no sharpener close!
  • Would I buy it? Yes! In all the colours. I could use the push to try different things.

Smudge Brush by  Beau Gâchis® Paris

  • Where can you get it? At Beau Gâchis’ website for $14 or at Amazon for $9.97.
  • Since I am a makeup newbie I was afraid I was going to get a complicated brush (is that even a thing? xD), but this one is very easy to use!
  • It allows you to pick up just the right amount of eyeshadow you need and apply it. In their site Beau Gâchis suggests to use it for contour and I think I could try that.
  • Would I buy it? Yes!

Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme by Lasting Smiles

  • Where can you get it? At Target for $3.99, Drugstore.com and Walgreens for $4.99. Also In Store at Target and Whole Foods Market.
  • Before I was into buying lipstick I was very much into lip balms and this one is a little bit 50/50 for me. I like how it smells and how long it lasts, however after a few days of using it my upper lip started to develop some sort of rough skin patches. I thought maybe it was something else, but when I stopped using it my lips got better. Maybe there is an ingredient I am allergic to and I didn’t know about.
  • Would I buy it? Maybe not, though I’d like to give it a try Peach Blossom and Pure Pomegranate. In my mind maybe it’s the peppermint part that affected my lips.

You’re Toast Mineral Eyeshadow by Marsk youre_toast_neutral_brown_marsk_mineral_eyeshadow

  • Where can you get it? At Marsk  for $22.50 ((1.2g).
  • I’m really new in this whole eyeshadow thing, not because I didn’t use it before, but because I didn’t know how to use it properly. Which in turn meant I’ve never given a chance to different bold colours.
  • They shipped  03 oz sample and I have to admit that I wasn’t really excited about the it being the neutral brown one. Brown is not really a colour I’m fond of, however this one is really nice looking and easy to blend.
  • Being a very pigmented colour works on it’s favor too!
  • Would I buy it? Yes, though not the You’re Toast one, but the Poodle, Melancholy, and most definitely the Orchid Glow.

Let’s talk about the money, money, money!

Whether you get the monthly or the year long subscription the price of the Ipsy Bag doesn’t change, in which case how about we break this down?

  • Price of the bag: $10 (that includes five different products)
  • Total value: $49.87 (approximately)
  • What do I think about it? As I said this was my first bag and I wasn’t expecting to love everything in it, but it was a pretty nice bag! So, if I hadn’t purchase the yearly subscription I would have still renewed it for next month!

What was your experience with your first bag? Did you love it or hate it?

Leave a link to your review and I’ll be happy to read it.

xoxo
